Understand your options

Understand your risk. Make a plan you can follow.

01

When cholesterol deserves a closer look

High LDL cholesterol or triglycerides, a family history of early heart disease, or side effects from cholesterol medication can leave you unsure what to do next. We review your history and results together, including inherited lipid concerns, diabetes and other factors that affect cardiovascular risk.
02

Clinical lipidology, explained

Clinical lipidology focuses on cholesterol, triglycerides and related disorders that affect cardiovascular health. Dr. Kordonowy is board-certified in Internal Medicine and certified in Clinical Lipidology. He helps you understand your results and weigh treatment options in the context of your overall health. Dr. Kordonowy accepts new patients with complex lipid disorders.
03

Testing with a purpose

A standard lipid panel is the starting point. Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) helps assess the number of particles that can contribute to plaque. Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a largely inherited risk factor. Your physician explains which additional tests could change your care and what the results mean.
04

Nutrition that fits your life

We discuss what you eat, your routines and the changes you can sustain. Your plan may focus on fiber-rich foods, the types of fats you eat, alcohol intake, activity and weight management. Sleep, blood pressure and blood sugar also belong in the conversation.
05

Treatment and follow-through

Lifestyle changes and medication can work together to lower cardiovascular risk. If you have had side effects or your results remain above your treatment goals, we review your options, follow your response and adjust the plan. Your physician can coordinate with your cardiologist when one is involved.

Common questions

Your questions, answered

A lipidologist evaluates and treats disorders of cholesterol and other blood lipids. At IMLWP, Dr. Kordonowy combines this expertise with primary care, nutritional assessment and ongoing cardiovascular prevention.

It depends on your history and prior results. ApoB, Lp(a) and other tests can answer specific questions about your risk or treatment. Your physician explains which tests could change your care and what the results mean.

Food choices, physical activity and weight management can improve parts of your lipid profile and overall health. Inherited factors also matter, and some people need medication alongside lifestyle changes. Your physician helps you decide what makes sense for you.

Tell your physician which medicine you took, the dose and what happened. We review possible causes and discuss an approach you can tolerate, which may include a different dose, a different medication or other treatment options.

Lipid and cholesterol management is offered within IMLWP membership care. Both Core and Premier include a standard Lipid Panel in the annual lab set, once per membership year. Additional advanced lipid testing and repeat labs are available at cost. Medications are charged separately.
