What does Galleri add to routine screening?

01

Screening for cancers without a routine test

Mammograms and colorectal screening are important, but each looks for particular cancers. For average-risk adults, there are no routine population screening tests for cancers such as pancreatic, ovarian and liver cancer. Galleri looks for a signal shared by many cancer types in a blood sample.
02

It reads patterns in DNA fragments

Cells release small fragments of DNA into the bloodstream. Galleri analyzes chemical markings on those fragments, called methylation patterns, for features associated with cancer. It does not test whether you inherited a cancer-risk gene.
03

A result that helps guide further testing

If a cancer signal is detected, the report predicts a likely tissue or organ of origin. That helps your physician decide which further tests to consider. A detected signal is not a diagnosis. Only further testing can show whether cancer is present.
04

A physician to help you through the result

We discuss the decision before you test and explain your report afterward. If more testing or a specialist is warranted, your own primary care physician orders the tests or arranges the referral and stays involved. Galleri is offered at cost to members.

Understanding the report

Understanding your result

No cancer signal detected

The test did not find a signal in this sample. It does not rule out cancer; keep routine screening current and report new symptoms.

Cancer signal detected

This is not a diagnosis. Only further testing can show whether cancer is present. Your physician reviews the result with you, explains the options and uses the predicted signal origin to plan further tests or a specialist referral.

Important test limitations

Galleri does not detect all cancers. False positive and false negative results can occur. Diagnostic evaluation may involve imaging or procedures and may not find cancer. Whether multi-cancer screening reduces cancer mortality is still being studied.
