We recently had the opportunity to host a small educational seminar at Back in Motion Physical Therapy in Fort Myers, Florida. This practice consistently delivers high-quality, personalized physical therapy and exercise coaching. Their team shares our commitment to concierge-level care and has been a strong partner in supporting our patients’ overall health and recovery.

Measuring Antioxidant Levels

Following a nutrition-focused discussion, we offered attendees the opportunity to undergo antioxidant scanning using the Nu Skin PRYSM iO, a handheld, non-invasive device that estimates antioxidant levels in the skin. These readings reflect the cumulative impact of dietary intake and supplementation over the past 1-2 months.

We scanned approximately 30 participants. While this was not a controlled or scientific study, the findings were nonetheless notable. Patients already in our practice consistently achieved the highest antioxidant scores. Conversely, lower scores were more common among community members not currently engaged in our care model. Although purely anecdotal, this observation suggests that our emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle may be making a measurable difference.

The Role of Diet and Oxidative Stress

It is important to clarify the purpose of antioxidant testing. The goal is not simply to encourage increased use of supplements, but rather to reinforce the importance of a diverse, nutrient-dense diet rich in whole foods. Antioxidants play a critical role in helping the body manage oxidative stress. This stress is an unavoidable part of daily life influenced by factors such as sun exposure, ultraviolet radiation, physical exertion, excess weight, environmental pollutants, and other metabolic demands.

Tools like the PRYSM iO provide a tangible way to visualize an otherwise abstract concept. More importantly, they open the door to meaningful conversations about long-term health, prevention, and the daily choices that shape physiologic resilience.
