In the traditional healthcare system, the average primary care visit lasts fewer than 15 minutes. That is barely enough time to say hello, check a symptom, and write a prescription. It is certainly not enough time to understand the complex story of your health.
When I joined Internal Medicine Lipid & Wellness Practice (IMLWP), I did so because I shared a vision with Dr. Kordonowy: that healthcare works best when it is built on a relationship, not a transaction. We call this the “Medical Home” model, and for our patients here in Southwest Florida, it is the difference between simply treating sickness and actively cultivating wellness.
Before transitioning to concierge private practice, I served as a hospitalist and extensivist for Lee Health. In the hospital, I saw patients at their most vulnerable, navigating complex conditions often without an advocate by their bedside who truly knew them. What I learned was that continuity of care is not a luxury—it is essential medicine.
When your doctor knows your story, your family history, your goals, and your fears, treatment becomes personalized. When you have direct access to that doctor, not through layers of voicemail and triage nurses, care becomes efficient and responsive.
I often tell patients that time is the most powerful diagnostic tool we have. In 15 minutes, I can treat a symptom. In 45 minutes, I can understand a person. And over years of continuity, I can help prevent disease altogether.
This is not an idealistic fantasy—it is the standard of care we provide every day at IMLWP. And for our patients, it has been life-changing.
